About VPTA Bus Number 6, Cherry Street

Transportation is an often overlooked component of a vital economy. Public transportation is an essential link for Americans living in small towns and rural areas. It provides mobility for people with limited access to a car. Increasingly, this includes the growing elderly population. For the elderly, and for students, persons with disabilities, and single parents caring for children, transit often provides the only viable access to health and social services, and to work and recreational opportunities. VPTA meets those needs.

Goals
To further our mission, the Vermont Public Transportation Association will strive to:
  • Represent the interests of its members and the users of public transportation services with government officials, agencies, and the public;
  • Provide information about public transportation to the public and to government officials and agencies;
  • Provide coordination, information, and resource sharing for members;
  • Contract with government or other agencies for the administration, coordination, and development of transportation services on a statewide basis;
  • Promote sound planning by VPTA and member organizations;
  • Promote subcontracting opportunities with regional public transit systems/brokers;
  • Assist the state and member transit systems/brokers by administering statewide programs as appropriate;
  • Collect statewide transportation system performance data in a uniform format;
  • Provide peer review for grant/contract applications and for grant/contract award or administration;
  • Develop and administer training and research programs for transportation providers;
  • Introduce state-of-the-art technology in statewide transportation programs, with applications at the transit system/broker level;
  • Foster collaborative and supportive relations among member organizations;
  • Provide a productive working environment for employees that fosters initiative and creativity, and provides training and education that mutually supports the goals of VPTA and its employees.
