The Deerfield Valley Transit Association

The Deerfield Valley Transit Association (DVTA), is a full-service transit provider formed in 1996, MOOver logoserving the towns of Wardsboro, Wilmington, Whitingham, Halifax and Dover. The company also provides transit services in Readsboro through an agreement with the GMCARC. The DVTA features deviated fixed route services, elderly and disabled transportation, and contract services with social service agencies. The DVTA’s buses and vans sport a unique Holstein motif and are called “MOOvers”."

DVTA has experienced a large growth in routes and services over the past years. In December 1999 the company added deviated fixed route services to five new towns that quadrupled its route system. In January 2000, DVTA contracted for van services with the Gathering Place and the Southeastern Vermont Council on Aging to provide access to adult day care and meal sites. At the same time, DVTA began “Van-Go”, a program to transport elderly and disabled people not served by existing social service programs. The service is immensely popular with its riders, taking them shopping, to doctor’s appointments, special events and other quality of life functions.

DVTA operates four deviated fixed and commuter routes year round and six routes seasonally that bring the total number of rides to almost 200,000 per year. The fleet of vehicles includes a unique all-wheel drive 30-passenger bus.

The DVTA is a region-wide, full-service public transit provider working in cooperation with other service providers; the state, local and regional planning agencies; and the communities that it serves.
